Highway Natives is a roots-rock band based in Nashville, TN. With "a retro ‘70s vibe combined with roots-flavored country-rock brawn, Highway Natives conjures up early Allman Brothers, The Black Crowes, and savors of the fictional band Stillwater in Almost Famous," (Medium). Comprised of Brandon Moore, Jordan Miller, Matt Drummey and Andrew Cusanelli, their sound can best be distinguished by their layered harmonies, artful full-bodied stylings on guitar, and a rhythm section thats groovy timekeeping is nestled tightly underneath singable and raw lyrics that trade between the two lead singers.
In May of 2021, the group released their first project together as a self-titled EP made up of four carefully selected songs from a catalog they had been testing at their live shows. Their debut went on to receive acclaim from publications such as American Songwriter and Medium, and introduced them to stages all over the southeastern region of the United States.
Following their EP, as serious changes and adaptations were happening in each of their personal lives, they lifted each other by continuing to write and create music as a remedy. After a successful crowd funding campaign, Highway Natives took the new material into Welcome to 1979 in Nashville and recorded their first full length, “West of the Blindside”, that would later release in the Spring of 2022. As the LP began to quickly outperform its predecessor, Highway Natives went on to take the stage opening for larger acts including The Red Clay Strays and Sundy Best, feature in popular showcases such as Whiskey Jam, and headline their own sold out shows at venues such as The Bluebird Cafe and The Basement in Nashville, TN. However, their newfound momentum would meet an unexpected challenge.
Nearly a year later, Highway Natives’ original bassist and drummer decide to respectfully part ways, after finishing out remaining shows while Jordan, Matt, and Brandon decided how to move forward. During the short intermission, they shifted their focus from live shows to developing new material and re-evaluating what they ultimately wanted, while also scouting for new bandmates. This led to the addition of their current drummer, Andrew Cusanelli, and a risky decision to blindly book studio time for later in the year at the legendary FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, AL in hopes of pressure making diamonds.
In the following months, the Highway Natives began to grease their wheels and get back on local and surrounding stages while they revamped their sound and vision, all in time for their trip to Muscle Shoals to record their newest record, “Hello Sunrise”, set to release August 2nd of 2024.
